This talk will critically examine the claims made about the ability of AI chatbots and virtual reality systems to enhance language learning experiences. By analyzing recent studies and research findings, we will explore the limitations of AI-generated language in replicating authentic human communication processes. Specifically, we will discuss the challenges AI systems face in engaging in sociopragmatic interactions and accurately reflecting interlocutors' intentions and emotional states. Through this discussion, we aim to provide a nuanced understanding of the role of AI in language education and its limitations in providing truly authentic language learning experiences.
